pc keyboard splits open to reveal 2nd screen

I like to think that I know a thing or two about computers. I was beginning to think I’d seen just about everything, when I came across this fascinating peculiarity. What you are just look at is a truthfully sole creature, and that the Ergonomic Dual Screen Split Keyboard Notebook moveable Personal Computer. The model shown is really known as “the Executive” - and offers up a split upright that opens to make known a hidden LCD touch screen monitor.

The split that keyboard design is a said to give profit in keeping in your wrists in a extra neutral position, so that is why not obtain advantage of that the empty space between QWERT and the YUIOP to just get some new work done? And the second touch screen acts as a self-governing Windows desktop, complete with pen-based input capacity

Samsung SP-A800B

f you are in the market for a high-end projector which offers you a contrast ratio of 10,000:1, then you should consider the Samsung SP-A800B. This projector which is now available in the US offers superb image quality thanks to 1080p HD resolution; this is a result of advanced optics as well as Texas Instruments 1080p DLP chip. There are a few great modes to increase viewing enjoyment, one of which is film mode which gives you 24 frames per second image quality; these are the same which are used in commercial theatres.

As you would expect the technology used in HD projectors is moving along at a fast rate, not only is the performance capabilities improved but also the styling as well. The design of the Samsung SP-A800B is unique, and the functionality of this HD projector puts it classes above the rest.

So what does this HD projector have to offer in the way of features? Well it has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080, although the NHK’s Super Hi-Vision projectors are still in another class. The Samsung SP-A800B HD projector also has a 95% aperture ratio as well as a fast 16 microsecond (0.016 millisecond) response time. Keeping things cool is a low-noise cooling system of just 25db; this means that your movie will not be spoilt by the humming noise of your cooling fan.

Although this all sounds impressive, what we do not know is how much the thing will cost yet, do not understand why Samsung did not give us pricing details.

Transparent home appliances

Friday, August 22, 2008

Have you seen these transparent home appliances?
They don’t have extra features on them, Japanese designers designed this just for fun and they were surprised that many people are actually interested in buying them. Japanese are always passionate about special, and sometimes useless designs. I personally like the looking of the fridge, the only problem is…where could I hide my alcohol when my stupid friends come visit

waterproof iPod nano case and speakers

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

We’ve seen a number of waterproof solutions that allow you to take your iPod safely on the beach or in the shower but the Icebar V2 combination case may be the best one we’ve seen yet (and the most expensive). The case provides a waterproof housing for you iPod nano and built-in waterproof speakers for places where it’s inconvenient to use headphones.

The case does have a port for headphones if you’d rather keep your tunes personal, and also has a click-wheel membrane to give complete control of the iPod through the case. The body is made of a shatter-proof polycarbonate which allows you to easily see the iPod display, but just be case the case is shatterproof doesn’t mean the iPod you put inside is.

There is even a little kickstand on the back of the Icebar waterproof nano speakers case to stand it upright and it also comes with a lanyard and a hook for hanging it up in your shower. The case fits the first 3 generation of Nano’s and the speakers require 4 AAA batteries to run but no word on just how long that will pump out the music. There is word on price however and this type of protection is going to cost you, with the Icebar V2 priced at $89.99 USD

Sharp’s plan is to distribute the TV and solar module to areas that have no easy access to grid power.

Smallest paper Nintendo DS even has tiny game

Someone with a combined love of Nintendo’s DS and craft projects created with paper, not to mention some skills, has created what we believe to be the smallest replica of the Nintendo DS Lite. The little DS measures just 1.4 inches at its longest point and SonicScape Jun, the creator, even took the time to make a Nintendodgos game cartridge that actually fits in. The top also opens to reveal the double screens via a toothpick powered hinge. From looking at the photos it appears that some incredible attention to detail and time was taken to make this little DS lite, but the maker of this paper design created a DIY video showing how you can make your own inside of 90 minutes with just scissors, pen knife, glue and this template. We’re thinking there is also an undisclosed prerequisite of skill that would significantly increase this time for most of us

M2E Charges Your Cell Phone With Kinetic Energy!

Earlier this year we highlighted Idaho startup M2E Power’s push to develop motion-powered electronics for the military. Now M2E is emphasizing the commercial applications for their technology, with a specific goal: revolutionizing cell phone batteries. M2E will announce the development of an external charger later this month that will generate between 300 and 700 percent more energy than current kinetic energy technologies, and may eventually replace cell phone batteries altogether

HP new business-focused notebooks

HP had a few new laptops to show off today, including its smallest and lightest notebook to date with a built-in optical drive. Featured were two HP laptops - one a tablet - and a Compaq.

The HP EliteBook 2530p and HP EliteBook 2730p are expected to be available by early September, pricing around $1,500 and $1,670 starting, respectively. The HP Compaq 2230s is currently available for around $1,000. You can get full details after the jump via HP’s press release.

HP Lightens the Load for Business Travelers
PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 18, 2008

HP today introduced three ultra-portable notebook computers, including a three-pound(1) EliteBook, the smallest and lightest HP notebook with a built-in optical drive.

Inspired by aircraft construction and designed for style-conscious mobile professionals, the HP EliteBook 2530p features the sleek and durable HP DuraCase – a brushed, anodized aluminum exterior casing combined with a magnesium alloy chassis that is engineered to pass several military-standard durability tests such as extreme temperature, dust and humidity.(2)

The HP EliteBook 2730p is an ultra-thin, convertible tablet that – with a twist of the screen – transforms from an ultra-light notebook PC into a pen-based tablet. The value-priced HP Compaq 2230s rounds out one of the most comprehensive ultra-portable notebook lineups in the industry.

“HP continues to distinguish the EliteBook brand with sophisticated, innovative designs that combine military-standard durability with easy-to-use features and the right levels of performance,” said Keith LeFebvre, vice president and general manager, Business Notebooks, Personal Systems Group – Americas, HP. “These great-looking notebooks can withstand the rigors of the road, meet the most demanding tasks and keep up with the ever-changing mobile lifestyle.”

New notebooks for the corporate road warrior

The HP EliteBook series incorporates the latest Intel® processors, solid-state hard drives and the most up-to-date wireless technologies, making them ideal for the business user on the go.

Offering the latest Intel technology for extended battery life and enhanced system performance, HP EliteBooks also support Intel Core™ 2 Duo(3) ultra-low-voltage (ULV) or low-voltage (LV) processors to optimize performance and minimize power consumption.

The two new EliteBook models feature an optional integrated 2 megapixel webcam with business card reader software, and an integrated HP NightLight that shines on the keyboard to improve visibility in low light. A shock-resistant hard drive and spill-resistant keyboard, standard with the HP EliteBook series, help defend data against bumps, drops and spills.

HP EliteBook 2530p Notebook PC – For the business professional on the go, HP’s smallest and lightest-weight business notebook offers performance in a 3.19-pound package. (1) The 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen HP Illumi-Lite LED display is lighter than standard notebook display technology and improves battery life by up to 90 minutes.(4)

The HP EliteBook 2530p offers the choice of an ultra-small 1.8-inch hard drive with a built-in optical drive or a higher-capacity 2.5-inch hard drive. For added protection against bang-ups, the inner magnesium shell of the notebook’s HP DuraCase is equipped with a honeycomb pattern that is thermally bonded to anodized aluminum for a solid construction to withstand active day-to-day use on the road.

HP EliteBook 2730p Notebook PC – This high-performing, ultra-thin, convertible tablet sports an innovative design and weighs in at only 3.7 pounds.(1) Rotating the screen transforms it into a pen-based tablet measuring only 1.11-inches thin. New features include an integrated touchpad, tablet buttons and a jog dial. Frequent travelers can take advantage of the optional ultra-slim battery accessory that offers up to 12 combined hours of battery life.(4) The HP EliteBook 2730p also supports a convenient, ultra-slim docking solution with an integrated DVD+/-RW drive.

Style and affordability

Stylish and powerful, the 4.07-pound(1) HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC offers a 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen display and a satin, reflective, black-on-black surface. With the Wi-Fi-certified wireless local area network (WLAN) and integrated Bluetooth® wireless technology, mobile professionals can send and receive emails or access the Internet – at work, at home or at their favorite hotspots.(5) This modernized classic business notebook includes HP 3D DriveGuard, which uses a three-axis accelerometer to detect sudden movement and initiate protective action, helping safeguard the hard drive against bumps or drops.

Security options on energy-efficient notebooks

All HP business notebooks are designed with the environment in mind, offering energy-efficient features and select materials for easier recycling. Both the EliteBook 2530p and 2730p have an Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) Gold rating and feature a mercury-free Illumi-Lite LED display, which is lighter and more energy-efficient than standard notebook display technology. HP has set a goal to remove all mercury – a potentially hazardous substance commonly found in notebook screens – from its notebooks by 2010.

The notebooks feature HP Mobile Broadband with built-in Gobi technology from Qualcomm and use a single module, the HP un2400, to support multiple mobile broadband network technologies and mobile operators. This increases users’ international roaming options and offers greater choice and flexibility in choosing a mobile data plan.(6)

Included HP QuickLook 2 software provides access to email, calendar, task and contact information within seconds at the touch of a button with no need to boot the operating system.(7) HP SpareKey addresses the hassle of forgotten passwords by using a sequence of three predetermined personal identification questions to gain entry into the system.(8)

All of the new notebook models are loaded with strong security features, including HP ProtectTools Security Manager and Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools, which encodes information on the hard drive to make sensitive information unreadable if a notebook is lost or stolen. For added data security, the built-in File Sanitizer permanently deletes individual files, folders and personally identifiable information from the notebook, allowing customers to recycle the notebook with confidence that their business data has been removed.

Pricing and availability(9)

The HP EliteBook 2530p and HP EliteBook 2730p are expected to be available by early September, with estimated starting U.S. street pricing of $1,499 and $1,670, respectively.

The HP Compaq 2230s is currently available at an estimated starting U.S. street price of $999

Hand-Cranked Super Battery Juices your Gadgets

It’s something that could happen to us all - accruing so many USB-bound gadgets that there’s no way to keep them all charged. They clutter the desk and drawers, constantly vying for attention from the laptop, which is plugged into an outlet, which supplies a current, which despite PG&E’s best intentions has a long way to go before it’s clean and green. This trusty hand-cranked superbattery stands in where the grid falls short, instantly providing any USB gizmo with a renewable energy source - one embedded deep within your biceps. Today’s crop of cameras, cellphones, and ipods are all linked by a common thread. The odds are that if it deals in data, then it likely has a USB port. Even if it doesn’t, pair it with these USBCELL Batteries and you’ve got a sustainable power source for any battery-bound gadget.

Applications abound: camera and iPod toting globetrotters can now reap the benefits of digital without worrying about converters or tapping into an energy grid. In emergency situations it provides a reliable flashlight. Your cellphone will never lose juice again. It will even store power thanks to its built in battery, and if you really want to, you could charge it overnight with the included AC adapter. Not me though; I draw the line at charging a charger.

World’s Smallest Solar Car: Select Solar Mini

Talk about bringing solar power to the palm of your hand! The World’s Smallest Solar Racing Car is a tiny, fully-functional solar powered vehicle topped with a minuscule photovoltaic panel. The Select Solar Mini Racer measures in at a mere 33×22x14 mm - about the size of a quarter - but can zoom around with the best of them.

Wrist grenade watch is the bomb!

Friday, August 15, 2008

It takes a special kind of nerd guy to strap a hand grenade to their wrist. First off it’s bound to be heavy thanks to it’s stainless steel case contruction. Plus it’s bound to get you all kinds of weird looks as you flip it open to see the time.

Chuck Norris may be the only person in the world that this looks appropriate on. It’s even water-resistant up to 3ATM, which comes in handy when you are pretending to be a Navy Seal. Comes in Army Green or Matte Black finishes with either a skinny canvas or wide leather and canvas wristband. They start around $125 each.

Limited Metal Gear Solid 4 watch

This Limited Edition Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots watch is now available for preorder at UK online retailer Gamestation. It’s a great geek way to celebrate your love of MGS, which is an unnatural sort of love at best. Made from stainless steel, engraved and numbered, and comes in it’s own black box with silver MGS4 logo, plus a certificate of authenticity from Konami. It was approved by Kojima himself. You better hurry. Only 500 are being released on October 31st, and they’re only going to be available through Gamestation. Sadly for some of you, they only ship to the UK. Hopefully you have some friends over there

Logitech DiNovo Keyboard Mac Edition

The Gadget: The Mac edition of Logitech's Bluetooth wireless DiNovo keyboard, which has been around in its Windows state since 2006. The Mac version has Mac-customized keys like Expose and Spotlight, as well as media playback keys and an on-board trackpad.

The Verdict: High quality for a semi-premium price. The DiNovo keeps the same form factor as the old PC version, but adds Mac-centered function keys and shortcuts like Dashboard, Mail, Safari, iTunes, iPhoto, Expose and Spotlight, as well as custom playback controls, an on-board mini-trackpad, a volume slider and the obligatory command, option and control keys.

In terms of build quality, it's super stable and can stand up to quite a bit of hard typing if you've got hammer fingers. It's also on the soft side of keyboard (not like the IBM clackfests), so people who enjoy the latest Apple aluminum keyboards will definitely like this. In fact, it's probably even slightly more comfortable than Apple's, which is good, seeing as this costs about twice as as their wireless version.

There's no num pad, but even without it the keyboard takes up a not insubstantial amount of space on your desk. There's a nice docking station for recharging once a month. We'd definitely give this a thumbs up for users who type a lot to justify the $160 price tag

Metallic Rose Nintendo DS Lite, again

Nintendo must have had some great feedback about the Metallic Rose Nintendo DS that came in the Nintendogs bundle, or it just didn’t do well and they have a lot of extras without the paw print. Either way the company is launching metallic rose as another standalone color for the lineup of DS’s, not to be confuse with the standard pink.

Some celebs by the names of America Ferrera and Carrie Underwood are going to also help push the latest DS in some commercials starting May 19. No pricing has been released but we would guess this model would be priced the same as the other standalone DS hardware systems.

Nintendo has had some great success with the DS with sales of over 19.6 million since its launch in November of 2004 and sales of 414,000 in April. They’ve also amassed more than 560 games available for the handheld console

GamePark's GP3X "Wiz" PMP Spy Shot

It has been nearly 3 years since the original Linux-based GP2X handheld first arrived, and based on this spy shot, it appears that a second-gen version is well on its way. Naturally, not much is known about the device other than a GP2X emulator should run on it after recompiling and it is (tragically) being called the "Wiz." Let's hope not because I already bought a "Wii" so I doubt that I would be able to stomach another product with a name that stupid

Nokia 3610 Fold announced

The Nokia 3610 Fold is an interesting handset just announced that features dual screens. The clamshell design features ergonomics that Nokia is calling “understated elegance.” Outside you’ll find a 1.3 megapixel camera with 6x digital zoom, along with the external display. Inside you’ve got a 2-inch, 262K color screen and the Nokia phone softkeys. It also supports up to 4GB microSD cards. It gets released officially in the third quarter of this year at $186. While I wouldn’t call it sexy, it does have a certain charm. It’s aimed squarely at those who just want basic features without a bunch of bells and whistles

alarm clock rotates as iPod touch display does

Who says alarm clocks need be ordinary? That is the thought behind the new iHome iH41, a rotating alarm clock with iPod touch dock priced at around $80.

The iHome iH41 comes in an L-shape design and is built to take advantage of the variable aspect screen of the iPod touch. It can switch orientation so one can watch videos in either horizontal or vertical displays. The digital clock display also rotates to match the orientation of the iH41.

Features of the iHome iH41 include charging and playing the touch, bass enhancement and an included remote control. It is available now.

Waterproof Armbands for iPhone 3Gs

With the Olympics in full-swing, and the watersports getting so intense that both balls and boobs are flying (NSFW link), there was no better time for H2O Audio to unveil their new AMPHIBX watersports armband. According to a recent press release, it provides 100% waterproof protection up to depths of 12 feet for both the original iPhone and the 3G version as well as almost every iPod, MP3 player and cellphone under the sun. A ClearTouch window allows the user to freely operate the device underwater and it is buoyant enough to float to the surface when a device is inside. The armband is retailing at $70 and $80 for medium and large sizes respectively, and a companion set of headphones dubbed "Surge" is also available for an additional $60

Smart contact lenses may prevent blindness

According to the World Health Organization, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. Glaucoma is basically a build-up of pressure in the eye. It can not be permanently cured. Now researchers at UC Davis have designed a special kind of contact lens that can measure pressure build up in the eye and they’ll even give you a warning if anything is wrong. These smart contact lenses use an organic polymer called PDMS that acts like a pressure sensor. UC Davis says that they will start clinical trials of these lenses in humans very soon. But this isn’t the end of the breakthrough, they’re also working up to one that will dispense medication automatically.

Sarotech's MediaPlayer Holds 320GB, 5.1 Audio

Sarotech's' 2.5-inch ABigs player seems to be designed by an engineer with a gigantic budget. Why? Because it's got a 2.5-inch display, H.264 and MKV support, 1080p over HDMI and 5.1-channel out, a built-in FM transmitter, a photo viewer, an e-book and both PAL and NTSC compatibility. The 160GB version is available for $278 and the 320GB version is available for $328 from Korea, which isn't all that bad considering everything you get from it. If you still want the Korean flavor of this Sarotech but a bit more US availability, there's always Cowon's PMPs. They've got not quite as massive storage, but their format support is phenomenal

Siren DP100

Siren of Japan has new MP3 player called the DP100, designed in a compact frame for personal audio on the go. The player comes with a lanyard that fits through a loop hole built into the frame of the player so it’s easy and secure to carry around.

The Siren DP100 comes in 3 capacities of 512MB, 1GB and 2GB and has an internal rechargeable battery that allows up to 18 hours of continuous playback. A USB connection allows the transfer of music files, and the DP100 can double as a mass storage device to hold files of any type through a simple drag and drop from Windows. That same USB connection charges the battery, and an AC adapter is included for a straight AC charge if needed.

The OLED display looks to be nothing fancy, showing active file information and the remaining charge on the battery and the current mode of the music player. The DP100 supports playback of MP3, WMA and WAV files, and can direct record into the device via a built in microphone straight to WAV files.

The whole digital audio player is only 70×27x17 mm and weighs about 28 grams with the battery and the device has languages for both Japanese and English. Also, this firmware is upgradeable in the future should Siren decide to add or change some features

P5 Portable MediaPlayer Has 5-inch Touchscreen

Cowon's upcoming P5 will improve on their A3 and Q5W portable media players (which we've both reviewed) with the addition of a haptics touch-feedback feature. The rest is fairly similar: a 800x480 screen, FM radio, stereo Bluetooth, TV-out, stereo speakers, USB, extreme codec support and 40GB-80GB sizes. There will still be Wi-Fi, but you'll have to get it tacked on after the fact with a dongle. The Korean price is $430ish by the end of the month. No US info yet as far as we know. Maybe we can trade them an early sneak peek at Starcraft 3 for this

Wolverine Data Releases 160GB Wolverine ESP

Wolverine data has released a new media player to their ESP line with a whopping 160GB capacity. You can do the math on this one, but at a quick glance we’re talking tens of thousands of MP3 files or hundreds of hours of video all on the portable device.

The Wolverine ESP can download FM radio, TV programs, and DVDs and play them back on a television, computer and of course right on the media player itself through the 3.6″ LCD. Files from memory cards can also easily be transferred into the device through a built-in 7 in 1 card reader.

The ESP supports MP3, WMA, OGG, WAV, AAC (MP4-audio), CDA, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, WMV9 and Xvid as well as viewing JPEG, Bitmap, TIFF and RAW image files. Actual dimensions of the portable player are 5.3″x2.8″x0.9″ in. (W x H x D) with the weight coming it at 10.2 ounces with battery installed.

Pricing for the Wolverine ESP 160GB runs about $550 USD, and for another $80 a cradle can be purchased that brings additional DVR functionality to the player.

ARCHOS 704 WiFi Introduced

We had a sneak-preview of the ARCHOS 704 WiFi via the FCC last month, and now ARCHOS announced the new ARCHOS 704-WiFi. Boasted as the only portable media player with a 7inch screen and full WiFi capabilities, the 704-WiFi also has a very high quality screen with a resolution of 800×480 with 6 million colors. Just as the older 604-WiFi model, the 704 comes with video, music and photo playback, as well as full internet access whatever your needs may be. Along with these features, the 704 also has an 80GB hard drive, touch screen navigation for use with your fingers or a stylus, and video editing capabilities.

If you happen to have a wireless network in your home, the 704-WiFi will allow you to browse your vast media collection in the comfort of your living room. However, not all of us have a handy wireless network and ARCHOS has come up with a solution for this. The company’s DVR station works seamlessly in sync with the 704-WiFi, and will allow us to transfer recordings back and forth.

The downloading of videos and music from online stores has seen a massive growth within the past couple of years. Thankfully, the ARCHOS fully support most major stores allowing us to download content straight from the stores and watch it directly on screen.

The 704-WiFi has a battery life of approximately 25 hours, and up to 5 for video playback and internet browsing. This pretty device measures 7 x 5 x 7.5 inches and can store 40,000 songs or 800,000 pictures. The 704-WiFi is available for preorder from the ARCHOS site with a retail price of $549.99.

Sony Launches Video Walkman

On Thursday Sony launched its latest gadget in their line of Walkman products, adding a video player to the mix this time. The NW-A800 Video MP3 player marks the first Walkman from Sony that incorporates a video player with an MP3 player, according to the press release.

“The new WALKMAN Video MP3 player combines the best visual experience with the ultimate in Sony sound technology. The new WALKMAN is compact, stylish and affordable without compromising on screen size which is incredibly important for consumers.” said a Sony spokesperson in the press release.

This new video Walkman looks to be a viable competitor for Apple with the iPod through supporting some very similar features. The player has a 2″ QVGA LCD display at 320×240 pixels, comes in memory capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB and comes in 4 different color options of violet, black, white and pink. Sony also boasts a significant battery life with the player with up to 30 hours for music and 8 hours for continuous video playback.

Some handy accessories include a cigarette lighter adapter for charging, mini jack to play the NW-A800 through the car stereo, FM and Bluetooth transmitters, and a cool cradle to synchronize data, charge and play the music through attached stereo speakers.

Aside from being the first Walkman with video playback capabilities, which is pretty cool, this player really doesn’t bring any new, innovative functionality or features to the market. The player can playback ATRAC files, which is a nice for a small percentage of people out there, and it does appear to have a nice display and of course carries the Sony Walkman name.

The Walkman Video MP3 player is going to only be available in Europe at this time starting in April and isn’t coming cheap. Sony is allowing pre-ordering of the device is now for £ 149.99 ($294 USD).

get air quality reports on your mobile phone

Thursday, August 14, 2008

Interzone, currently in prototype form, is a sensor which could be attached or built in to a mobile phone to give it the ability to monitor the surrounding air quality.

That way, you'd not only be able to look at the smog hanging above the streets of London, but measure it too. Nothing like a scientific reading to give to your doctor as proof that's why you're wheezing your way around the capital.
